Payroll Specialist

SF Recruitment are currently recruiting for a Payroll Specialist for a long term contract opportunity based in Birmingham City Centre.
Key Responsibilities :
- End-to-end processing of monthly payroll for 300+ employees
- Ensuring payroll is processed accurately and on time in line with statutory requirements
- Processing starters, leavers, salary changes, bonuses, overtime, and deductions
- Managing statutory payments including SSP, SMP, SPP, and SHPP
- Ensuring compliance with HMRC regulations, RTI submissions, and payroll deadlines
- Managing pension auto-enrolment, opt-ins/opt-outs, and pension submissions
- Processing payroll journals and reconciling payroll control accounts
- Handling payroll queries from employees in a professional and confidential manner
- Liaising with HMRC, pension providers, and other external bodies when required
- Supporting payroll audits and year-end processes including P60s and P11Ds (if applicable)
- Maintaining accurate payroll records and employee data in line with GDPR
Skills & Experience Required
- Proven experience in a payroll position (in-house or bureau)
- Strong knowledge of UK payroll legislation and statutory requirements
- Experience processing payroll for a medium to large employee base
- Familiarity with payroll systems
- Strong attention to detail and high levels of accuracy
- Ability to manage deadlines and work under pressure
- Confident communication skills with the ability to handle sensitive information
- Strong Excel skills (VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, pivot tables desirable)
