Head of Consumer Engineering
UK Based - Field Based
Up to £70,000 P/a + 20% bonus + vehicle

About the role:

Reporting to the Technical and Engineering Director, the Head of Consumer Engineering (HCE) is responsible for delivery of excellence in safety, customer service and operational efficiency by effective leadership of the Consumer Engineering team of gas technicians, crane vehicle drivers, contractors and supporting colleagues.

They ensure that assets at bulk consumer locations are installed, repaired and maintained in a safe, timely and efficient manner, in line with the required legislative, industry and company standards.

This role oversees the installation and Maintenance teams, therefore the ideal candidate will have experience managing field based teams or sites.

Accountabilities

The HCE holds overall accountability for safety, performance and customer service of the Consumer Engineering function; key duties include:

- Leadership and management of the Consumer Engineering team (including recruitment, engagement, performance management, development/competence management), including direct line management of Regional, Civils and Metered Consumer Engineering Managers
- Ensuring the safety of colleagues, customers and the wider public by driving performance and continuous improvement in health, safety and well-being; including positive Safety Culture development.
- Ensuring the safety and integrity of all assets at consumer sites.
- Ensuring the company's compliance with the requirements of its Gas Safe registration.
- Strategic management of internal and external resources to ensure these align with current and future requirements (up to 5 years out).
- Accountable for operational cost and capital budget expenditure within set targets.
- Leading and developing continuous improvement in safety, efficiency and cost control.
- Leading other change management programmes within the Consumer Engineering function.
- Overall responsibility for customer service within Consumer Engineering.
- Engagement and partnering with sales colleagues to support profitable volume growth and market development.

Desirable:
- Experience of engineering leadership within a field service organisation (utilities or similar)
- Knowledge of LPG or natural gas industry
